Hmm

Posted by valerie at 08:16 PM on January 7, 2004.

I think my cute site is in need of a redesign. I want it to look all pixely and stuff like some of the sites featured there, but I haven't the "skillz" or the inspiration to do that sort of thing.

I am debating asking around to have someone design it for me. Maybe I would pay, if the price and design were right. I dunno.

I also thought about upgrading the links engine ATK uses, but that would cost me $450. Though I'd love to improve the site like that, the price is a bit too steep. Besides, I spent a little money on a mailing script and haven't been able to get that set up in months

Old.

Posted by valerie at 10:19 PM on November 25, 2003.

I was talking to one of my sisters about the movie Nightmare Before Christmas the other day, and I mentioned that I had seen it in the theaters on a date in high school. She joked that that was "like 15 years ago!" I did the math and realized that it was actually 10 years ago. Makes me feel so old!

Hamsters.

Posted by valerie at 02:47 PM on November 2, 2003.

A bit about hamsters, both bad and good:

It has been quite a bad year for boy hamsters around here. First, Bamster died this summer, then Pinko earlier this month, and now Orange is also gone.

Orange, the sweetest hamster boy ever, had gotten a bit slower and sleepy, and a week from last Friday, he died in his sleep. It really bothered me because I'd checked on him after I woke up in the morning, and then when I came back from showering and getting dressed, he was already gone

It makes me sad thinking about it, but all of the boys had good lives. We played with them a lot and gave them nice things to eat, and had a lot of fun all around. We even tried breeding some of them with some of our girl hamsters, though it never resulted in any babies.

Life goes on though. We have 4 girl hamsters still, all with their own lovely quirks. We'd also been wanting to get a new hamster, and so yesterday, we bought a new boy hamster. He's so very tiny compared to our large (or should I say fat, in Piggus' case) girls. He is sable (a creamy brownish black color) with white banding, and has cute little raccoon eyes, like Bamster did. He's so friendly even though he's encountering many new things with us.

I'll try to post some photos of the hammies soon, once I get a proper photo gallery script set up on my domain (any recommendations).

Oops!

Posted by valerie at 12:44 PM on October 7, 2003.

Whee, I just spilled water on my keyboard! In all the years that I've been using computers, I've never done that. At least it's the keyboard at work and not my own, hehe

Ok, so I've been trying to customize the templates on Tabulas, and they won't work. They keep giving me an error about not being able to find the tag, even though it's in there. Is this because it's a table-less layout, or am I overlooking something? This is frustrating :/

Thanks to those who suggested free templates sites though! They're very handy when I really don't feel inspired to create my own layout, like now.

Goodbye, Pinko.

Posted by valerie at 12:17 PM on October 7, 2003.

We had to have one of our hamsters put to sleep on Friday. :/ Lately, he'd been spending more time inside his plastic skyhouse and seemed a bit more tired. On Friday morning, he was sleeping semi-buried in some bedding when I left, but later on, my boyfriend found him making very unhappy noises. He seemed to be in a good deal of discomfort, so we decided to have him put to sleep.

RIP Pinko Spiteball.

Templates

Is it just me, or are all of the Tabulas templates lame? Anyone have suggestions for some cool, free layout sites?

I don't feel entirely well at the moment, and I just want to go home. I hope I'm not getting sick with whatever has been going around at the office. That would be just my luck.

This weekend I decided to start working on doing the things I like and used to do, like reading and writing and "artsy" stuff. I started reading a book about writing and even picked up a few local papers. The book suggested the common idea of setting aside time every day to write, but that only made me think of all the other things I'd like to do.

Should I set aside an hour for writing, and another hour for arsty things, and then what about reading? There are just too many things that I'm interested in doing, so again, I am stuck. I guess it would be better to be doing at least one of them, than to be doing nothing at all though.

I think reading and writing are both at the very top of my list. Currently, I read almost nothing beyond product requirements, while I write almost nothing beyond functional specs. All work stuff, which is ok, but there are other things that I'd like to get back into reading and writing again.

---

I need to figure out a new email name for all of my subscriptions and whatnot. Unfortunately, a bunch of the names I came up with are taken (on Yahoo! Mail). Suggestions are welcome ;D

Finally, it's Friday. This week has been quite a busy one, though next week is bound to be way worse. Details on Monday ;P

The day before yesterday, I ran into someone I haven't seen for awhile at work. She said, "wow, you're so thin!" She's the first person to have said something, but I guess it's definitely noticeable that I'm about 70 pounds lighter than I was a year and a half ago. Cool.

I meant to write something else, but now it's lost. I'll post again if I remember.

Miscellanea

Posted by valerie at 03:27 PM on September 15, 2003.

I was going to post directly on LiveJournal, but the site won't load for me. Oh well. Score a point for Tabulas.

I have the song "Breathe" by Telepopmusik stuck in my head. It was used for some car commercial (Mitsubishi I think?) I think. My fault for buying the CD on a whim and listening to it on the drive in from work.

Some days I wish I could just pack up my things and walk home from work, stopping at a cafe or some other place along the way. One thing I miss about being in Urbana, where I could walk between classes and home fairly easily, and still drive when necessary. At least my commute isn't horribly long, but it would be nice to get some fresh air and avoid some of the stress of being stuck in traffic.
